At Live The Reel, we recently had the pleasure of servicing KIA’s ” Dear Tennis ” Australian Open 2024 commercial for the London-based production company, Family Creative. Directed by Chris Fowles and captured through the lens of DOP Andi Hampton.

More than just an advertisement for Kia’s new electric SUV, the EV9; it’s a celebration of the sport of tennis, narrated by the legendary Rafael Nadal. His voiceover, ” Dear Tennis, you are more than just a game, you are an enduring love, a stranger, a toughest rival. In the face of adversity, you ignite something extraordinary. You allow us to dream. Because for every serve, every rally and every point, we find the power to move forward. Thank you, tennis,” serves as a heartfelt tribute to the game and its impact on players of all levels.

As a production service producer in Madrid and Mallorca, we ensured that every aspect of the shoot was seamless. From location scouting the various tennis venues, providing local crew & equipment, dealing with the local authorities for permits, to coordinating the car tracking shots in the city, our team fully supported the production on the ground.

5-Star Style Unleashed – Jacamo’s Striking Alcudia Beach Hotel Shoot with Rugby Star Courtney Lawes

Our team at Live The Reel wrapped up a dynamic two-day beach hotel commercial filming in Mallorca for the fashion brand Jacamo, featuring the formidable rugby icon Courtney Lawes. With the stunning beachside hotel serving as our multifaceted location, our production service was in full swing supporting our client’s vision. The northern charm of Mallorca’s Alcudia was the perfect backdrop for capturing Jacamo’s blend of casual elegance and robust style. Moreover, the ever-reliable sunny climes of Mallorca graced our “winter” shoot with an abundance of natural light.

Shot on the Arri Alexa Mini paired with Cooke S4/i lenses ensured each frame was infused with warmth and clarity. A foray into aquatic cinematography was achieved with the Scubacam, bringing a below-the-surface perspective to the visuals.

Simultaneously, a photoshoot was underway. We transformed a section of the hotel into an impromptu studio, complete with a colourama for that polished studio feel. This dual-format approach not only maximized our shooting time with our models, but also provided Jacamo with a comprehensive portfolio of images and footage from the shoot.

Nearing the end of our second day of filming in Alcudia Mallorca, we transitioned into an atmospheric night session on the beach. Our art department skilfully setting the stage with a pop-up beach bar, bathed in the soft illumination of hanging bulbs, providing a relaxed yet stylish backdrop for Jacamo’s evening collection.

A technical tour through our recent Mallorca commercial production service rendered under the warm embrace of Palma’s sun. Tasked with facilitating Greenroom Films from the UK, our expert local team at Live The Reel provided comprehensive fixer services to orchestrate a seamless shoot for True Potential’s latest TVC.

Our camera setup was spearheaded by the Alexa Mini LF, complemented by the Arri Signature Primes for their exceptional image quality. The Angénieux EZ-2 Lens provided us with the flexibility of a zoom lens, which, when combined with the precision of the Fisher 11 dolly and Romford slider, allowed for smooth and intricate camera movements – to create the “vertigo effect”. Brilliant DOP, Tim Fok’s inclusion of the unique Laowa Periprobe lens brought an innovative and fresh angle for the final brand shot.

To bring the True Potential commercial to life, our local crew at Live The Reel worked meticulously to utilize every facet of a luxurious private villa in Mallorca, crafting a versatile filming environment that supported multiple thematic sets within its walls and grounds. A KIA commercial in Mallorca. For the 2023 KIA Australian Open campaign featuring Rafa Nadal, Family Creative, a production company from the UK entrusted Live The Reel, for the second consecutive year, to provide the full production facilitation on the ground in Mallorca, Spain.

Our local services covered hiring of crew, equipment and extended to the practicalities of the production—coordinating locations, arranging smooth transportation for the travelling team, and catering was elevated with exceptional coffee crafted on-site by a professional barista, providing a much-appreciated boost throughout the busy shooting schedule.

Check out our behind the scene photos in a local cinema, where we captured Nadal reliving his iconic moments from previous Opens, the intensity in the air almost tangible. Employing the Arri Alexa Mini LF and using the Trinity 2’s fluid camera movements that brought viewers into the heart of his reflective journey. We even scheduled in a quick content shoot at Rafa’s Academy later in the day.

In our latest production news installment, join us on the move as we journey through the winding coastal roads of Mallorca for the road shoot of KIA’s 2023 Australian Open commercial. The Live The Reel team, serving as the fixers, provided top-tier production services to ensure the KIA EV6 was showcased against the striking sceneries of Soller and the Sierra de Tramuntana. Our local crew’s expertise was vital in managing the shoot’s complexities, from securing the necessary location permits to orchestrating road closures.

Employing the Alexa Mini LF camera with its esteemed image quality and K35 lenses known for their characterful vintage look, captured the essence of the EV6’s design. The Scorpio Arm, mounted on a tracking vehicle with a Nodal 360-degree ring, provided the dynamic range of motion needed to keep pace with the car’s sleek dynamics.

For the aerial perspective, we launched an FPV drone equipped with the RED Komodo, swooping over the landscape to offer breathtaking views of the EV6 in motion, adding an extra dimension to the car’s on-screen presence.

We are located in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and we operate on location throughout the island. We are now also uniquely positioned to offer our services in Madrid, Spain.

Can I film on a beach in Mallorca? Can Live The Reel assist with location permits? And how long does it take to acquire filming permits in Mallorca?

Absolutely. We have a dedicated team that specializes in obtaining all types of location permits. We can manage the entire process from application to approval, ensuring that your production is legally compliant.

Generally you should allow a minimum three weeks. If we are blocking roads, where we are going to film with a tracking car or film on a beach in a protected natural area, there are multiple permits to acquire, so when a selection is made, you should allow 3 weeks to be safe.

Are there any restricted areas in Mallorca for filming?

Some areas may have restrictions due to environmental protection laws, private ownership, or other regulations. We’re experienced in navigating these restrictions and can advise you on feasible times and locations for your project.

What kind of support do you provide for large-scale outdoor shoots?

For large-scale outdoor shoots, we provide comprehensive logistical support, including transportation, power supply, catering, tents, and even restroom facilities if needed. We ensure your crew and talent are comfortable and the shoot runs smoothly.

Can you help with set construction and breakdown at location sites?

What kind of cameras and lenses do you have available?

We have a wide range of cameras and lenses suitable for various types of shoots, including a variety of prime, anamorphic and zoom lenses. Leading manufacturers such as ARRI, RED, Sony, Cooke, Zeiss, Leica and Angenieux.

Can you source rare or specialized equipment for my shoot?

Yes, if you require specialized equipment that is not in our current inventory, we can source it for you. We have connections with rental houses and equipment suppliers both locally and on the mainland.

Can you accommodate both small and large crew requirements?

Whether your production is a small unit project or a large commercial shoot, we can scale our crew to meet your specific needs. We have a network of professionals that includes both local talent and seasoned professionals from the mainland.

What are you crew’s working hours?

In Mallorca, our crew’s working hours are 11+1 base to base with a 10 hour turnaround time.

Does the film crew in Mallorca speak English?

The majority of our productions come from outside of Spain, so our crew is used to working with international clients where the common language is English. Should you choose to bring your DOP, Production Designer or any head of department, we will be pleased to pair will English-speaking assistants.

What studio facilities do you provide?

We have partnerships with several studio facilities in and around Palma de Mallorca that offer green screens, sound stages, and a range of indoor and outdoor sets. We can assist you in finding the perfect studio space to suit the specific requirements of your production.

How far in advance do I need to book your services?
